My second great grandfather, John Lewis Lane, was born in Indiana 2 December 1824 and died in Madison Co., Indiana on 4 September 1894. There is no death certificate for him. He lived in Madison Co., Indiana from 1850 or before. Most of the Madison County records were destroyed by fire. He married twice - first to Hannah Gentry who was born 24 Jan 1827 and died 30 July 1854 and is buried in Brown Cemetery, Madison County. He married her in Wayne Co., Indiana on 27 Aug 1845. He is shown with Hannah in the 1850 census with two children - Mary E. Lane, born about 1846 and William, born about 1848. They had two other children - Martha C. born Feb 1851 who died as an infant and is buried in Brown Cemetery. They also had Francis born about 1851. I find him living with a neighbor in 1860.

He married second Delilah Ann Webb 16 Aug 1856. She was a neighbor of his.  He had thirteen children with her. I am descended from his son, Andrew Authur Lane who was born 31 Oct 1866. Because the county records were destroyed I was unable to get any actual early marriage records. I have the birth dates and marriages dates from the family bible of Andrew's sister. I found the owner of this bible in May 1997. All together he had seventeen children according to his obituary.
